As for the vegetables, there are plenty of insect pests. Non-woven fabric row covers will keep bugs off the crops. If the crop needs insect pollinators, as do melons, squashes and cucumbers, the Non-woven fabric covers have to be removed when the plants flower. But a few weeks of protection makes a big difference. A common problem with cucumbers is a bacterial wilt disease transmitted by insects, so keeping the beetles away helps prevent cucumber wilt.
